Software Endpoints
Software endpoints offer the user the ability to use any hardware platform as a Hawkeye endpoint but with the limitation of not being able to run Real Service tests. The XR2000 VM is an exception to this rule.
Different flavors of probes or endpoints can be downloaded from the Hawkeye server software download page or from the link (Online Endpoint Library) provided at the bottom of that page. Some endpoints such as android, iPhone, and Mac IOS, require additional configuration outlined in the Performance Endpoint user guide found from the Online Endpoint Library page.
The endpoints available on the Ixia web page are for the most part fully compatible with Hawkeye, but some specific versions may not be completely tested with the current Hawkeye server. We recommend you to download the endpoints from Hawkeye server directly to ensure 100% tested compatibility and stability with the current Hawkeye version.
You can also download from the Hawkeye server directly:
Mobile phone endpoints
Android and iOS software endpoints can be found on the respective app stores. Look for the key word IXIA in the application search engine. The application is Hawkeye Endpoint or Ixia Performance Endpoint.
Install software endpoints
For most software endpoints (Windows, Android, and iOS), the installation is very straight forward with a few steps.
The important step is the registration server configuration: the URL or IP address (public) of the Hawkeye server must be filled in for automatic endpoint creation and management.
Install Raspberry Pi endpoints
The following steps need to be performed to create a Raspberry Pi Software Endpoint:
- On Hawkeye Server UI, select web page for Download Software Endpoint to obtain Raspberry PI SW endpoint as a tar file.
- Copy endpoint tar file to the XRPi and store in /tmp directory.
- Create directory structure for Raspberry Pi
# copy pelinux_rasp_pi_2_96.tar to /home/
# tar -xvf pelinux_rasp_pi_96.tar
# cd temp
# cp * /usr/local/Ixia/.
- Obtain the file /usr/local/Ixia/endpoint.ini from either a working XRPi or Hawkeye Customer Support and copy to /usr/local/Ixia/endpoint.ini
- Edit (nano) /usr/local/Ixia/endpoint.ini and define IP for Hawkeye Server
- Edit (nano) /etc/hostnames to define name for probe.
- Add entry to /etc/hosts for Hawkeye server IP
- Edit (nano) /etc/rc.local and add the following at the end:
(sleep 10 && /usr/local/Ixia/endpoint 1>>/var/local/endpoint.console 2>&1)&
- Reboot Raspberry PI.
# reboot
After reboot to activate wireless network, routes will be wrong. Change the default route to bring it on wlan0.
If you want to enable the Wi-Fi interface use the following steps:
- Enable Raspberry Pi WIFI
# sudo raspi-config
Enable WIFI interface WLAN0
# nano /etc/network/interfaces and add
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
- Create file to configure WIFI
# nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
network={
ssid="hawkeye-TP-LINK-1"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
priority=1
auth_alg=OPEN
eap=PEAP
phase2="auth-MSCHAPV2"
identity="testuser"
password="testpw"
}
You are responsible for configuring Raspberry Pi firewalls to open required ports.
