Initial configuration

This section describes the initial configuration of the Hawkeye.

First time log in

There are three methods you can use to log in and access the Hawkeye:

Console:

Directly through the console port, using the supplied Micro-USB cable

DHCP: By allowing the Hawkeye to obtain a DHCP address

Static:

From a static IP address on the host PC

Each method is described below.

Logging in through the console:

If you want to use the Micro-USB connector on the console port, you may need to install a virtual COM port (VCP driver ) on the host PC. Many modern operating systems already have a native driver for the console port. If yours does not, you can download a VCP driver from the following location:

http://www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

For Windows host PCs, download the Universal Windows Driver version of the VCP driver installer.

  1. Connect a console cable from the host PC to the Hawkeye console port.

  2. On the host PC, open a PC terminal emulator session for the console port.

  3. Configure the terminal settings as follows:

    Baud rate 115200
    Data 8 bit
    Parity None
    Stop 1 bit
    Flow control None
  4. Insert the AC line cord into the input connector of the desktop power supply.

  5. Plug desktop power supply output connector into unit 12 VDC input jack.

The unit will automatically power up -- you do not need to press the power button.

During the boot process, various messages will display on the serial console while the bootloader and Linux come up.

  6. At the Linux prompt, log in using the following credentials:

    User name ksuser
    Password keysight

Logging in through a DHCP address:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from a switch to port 1 on the Hawkeye.

  2. Insert the AC line cord into input connector of the desktop power supply.

  3. Plug the desktop power supply output connector into unit 12 VDC input jack.

The unit will automatically power up -- you do not need to press the power button.

  4. Check your DHCP server for the IP address issued to the Hawkeye.

The default hostname is xr3k-XXXX where the XXXX is the last 4 digits of the serial number

  5. Open an SSH session to the Hawkeye IP address.

  6. At the Linux prompt, log in using the following credentials:

    User name ksuser
    Password keysight

Logging in through a static address:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the host PC to port 1 on the Hawkeye.

  2. On the host PC, configure the PC with a static IP address on the Ethernet interface in the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet.

  3. Insert the AC line cord into the input connector of the desktop power supply.

  4. Plug the desktop power supply output connector into the Hawkeye 12 VDC input jack.

The unit will automatically power up -- you do not need to press the power button.

  5. SSH to the Hawkeye default IP address: 192.168.0.10.

  6. At the Linux prompt, log in using the following credentials:

    User name ksuser
    Password keysight
