Mesh Management
This section describes the process of creating a mesh test using a group of probes. A key concept of Mesh tests is the IP used for each probe for test traffic is the default IP. You can change this for all probes so that the IP used for traffic in a mesh test is the IP associated with the interface that defines the default gateway. To set the IP, go to Preference > Set Test IP that matches Default Gateway (Mesh tests only).
Select Meshes on the side bar to create and manage meshes.
Add a Mesh
-
Select + Add button.
- Specify the name of the mesh in Mesh name.
- Specify the description of mesh in Mesh Description.
- Select Is Active to make the mesh test available in the test execution mesh. Default is selected. See mesh test execution selection for more details.
- Select the probes from the Available Probes for Mesh list in the left column and select add>> to add the probes to the Selected Probes for Mesh column. By default no mesh paths are selected. To customize the mesh, select paths from the Selected Probes for Mesh column.
-
Select select all or unselect all to select or clear selection of all mesh paths.
- For a full mesh created using the selected paths, if you add more probes to it, neither the mesh nor the hub and spoke is complete. You must manually update the mesh to be full mesh or hub and spoke. Appropriate messages are displayed in the top panel describing the type of mesh configured (Full mesh or Hub and spokes).
- Meshes containing more than 200 selected paths can have performance impact on server when using default MariaDB configuration. It is essential to optimize MariaDB configuration as per instructions mentioned in Manage Configuration Database.
-
The manual path selection table is only supported for meshes that have less than 50 selected probes. More than 50 selected probes will result in no full mesh option and only the buttons at the top can be used to configure hub and spoke mesh.
- The maximum number of mesh paths supported is 2450.
- Select Save Mesh to save the mesh.
- Select Meshes on the side bar to see all meshes that have been created.
- To edit a mesh, select a mesh from the Mesh List menu and select the edit
icon. The following options will be available for editing:- Add probes to mesh
- Remove probes from mesh
- Change mesh name
Configure a Mesh: Hub and Spokes
To configure a hub and spoke topology with a mesh, complete the following steps:
-
After you select a mesh from the Mesh List, select
to edit it. The following screen will be available.
- Select the probe from the drop-down list, which you want to configure as hub.
- Select Configure hub and spokes button. Automatically all paths between the hub and the spoke will be created.
In the example below, Austin probe was selected as hub. Automatically all paths were created when the Configure hub and spokes option was selected.
