Replicating Tests Across Multiple Endpoints
Hawkeye allows you to create a test template for all test types. The advantage of this is that when assigning tests to endpoints a saved test template can be assigned. Test templates offer the ability to create pre-canned test suites. For instance combining several Node to Node tests for an "office_suite" test template or combining several tests for a "voice_suite" test template. This saves user time in test creation and allows for thresholds for test metrics to be set to expected values once for the users network. For example threshold metrics for expected round trip delays.
In Probe Management there is a web GUI for Test Templates. You can create a test template and give it a name for referencing in test execution. You can configure all properties of a test except the endpoints to be used. You can create a test suite by adding multiple tests of the same test type (N2N/Mesh/Real Servcices) to each test template. For each test type added to the template all usual configuration of a regular test can be configured, such as thresholds, email for alarms, schedule frequency of tests. For each test the you have a flag to enforce the test is scheduled at correct synced time. Each test template can be restricted to be available to only certain user groups. Once all tests have been added to the new test template it is "added" and is available for use in Test Execution.
In Test Execution for each test type such as Test Execution Node to Node if a test template is available then a button is presented to the user allowing the selection of "normal" test or using a previously saved test template. A pull down menu allows for the selection of a test template then the User only has to select the endpoints to assign for the test template. When tests are running an icon identifies normal tests and tests based on test templates.
Under Test Execution there is a web page Test Execution Templates, which is used to manage tests running using a test template (for example, voice_suite). From this web page individual tests on endpoints can be paused and deleted.
A test template can only be deleted once all scheduled tests using that specific test template have been removed.
The name of the test template (test identifier) does not support special characters such as quotes.
